Members and friends of Southern Heights Baptist Church: Betty Pennington, longtime member of our Church, has passed away. Her visitation will be Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m., at the Church, followed by a memorial service at 10:00. Graveside services will be at the Snow Cemetery. Share this message if you knew Betty.

The American Church has lost its way. Her priorities are no longer God's priorities. Doubt that? Turn on the "Jesus Channel" at any random time and give a quick listen. "Health and wealth", "name it claim it". Is that the mission statement of the New Testament? Can that be found in the Gospels? No. Peddle that nonsense on the streets of New Dehli. Try and convince believers in Somalia God wants them wealthy. Jesus said, "In this world their will be trouble", "blessed are you WHEN people persecute you." Paul said, "there will be terrible times." There are no qualifiers in those statements. If you sign on to Christianity (real Christianity) that's what you can expect. The American church is an entitled lot. God does not promise to excuse us from trouble. He promises to see us through it. Hey! We are in full construction mode for VBS at Southern Heights Baptist Church. Anyone who can help: we will be at the Church from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every day until June 10. But we really need help now, as we are building and painting our sets. All hands on deck! Thank you.

Solomon said, "A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones." How do you protect a joyful heart? We think of joy as an event. We rely on fellowships, relationships, Church, Sunday School to bring us joy. So if there's nothing happening we get restless, and we look for one event after another to bring us joy. We don't understand that happiness and happenings are not the same. So don't be surprised when Satan creates havoc in your "happening". We'll talk about the "Thief of Joy" this Sunday at Southern Heights Baptist Church, and how to combat the enemy that would rob you of your peace and happiness. See you Sunday. Wear a smile.

As Christians we have access to God. Whatever the issue, you can take it to God. Whatever the failure, you can take it to God. Whatever the heartache, you can take it to God...and you can do so with confidence that He will hear you and respond. You can do so with the assurance that He is not going to hold the past against you. Our relationship to Christ gets us in the door. "You have gained access to God by your faith in Jesus Christ." Romans 5:2. If we have that kind of access, how do we take advantage of it? We'll tackle that question this Sunday at Southern Heights Baptist Church. Hope you'll be there.

In Acts 9 we meet a woman named "Tabitha." She is described as a "disciple," a follower of Jesus. She had what the world prized, beauty. Her name means "gazelle", a name commonly given to women of great beauty. She could have based her life on that fact alone and been very popular, even successful. But she wouldn't have had an eternal impact. Tabitha had her priorities in place. She was a disciple of Jesus, and because of that relationship, she changed the lives of everyone around her. Join us this Mother's Day at Southern Heights Baptist Church, as we explore what it means to be an "influencer" in this world.

Join us this Sunday for a study of Ephesians 6. There is a war being fought and a command from the Lord to take up arms and to stand firm. Don't miss it.

Revelation 3:9 tells us that one day God will grow tired of the abuse of His Church. He will come to her defense. When Christ returns, He will gather His Bride (the Church) to Himself. Once we are with Him and safely out of this world, Christ will dispense justice on those who have opposed the Bride. The "Wrath of God" is a forgotten doctrine today, but it is real. Join us at Southern Heights Baptist Church as we examine this important, and necessary, part of end-times-theology. See you Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

Lola Wolfinbarger, precious saint of God from Southern Heights Baptist Church, passed away Sunday night. Her memorial service will be Friday morning at 10, at Nelson's Funeral Home in Berryville. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday evening. Our Church will provide a meal for the family Friday after the service. Contact Rama at the Church office if you can help.
